Professional BABIES AND CHILDREN care in Milton Keynes for all ages.

BABIES AND CHILDREN

At Lumena Clinic, there is a special focus on caring for babies and children in a gentle, safe, and family‑centred way. The aim is to support growing bodies through life’s early challenges – from birth and feeding, to sleep, movement, and busy toddler years – using soft, age‑appropriate techniques and plenty of time for parents’ questions.

Osteopathic care for babies uses light touch, gentle soft‑tissue work, and cranial techniques to ease areas of tension and help the body move and settle more comfortably. Sessions are always adapted to the child’s stage of development, with a calm environment where babies can feed, be cuddled, or take breaks as needed.

Common reasons parents bring their children include unsettled behaviour, feeding or turning preferences, postural concerns, stiffness or asymmetry, aches around growth spurts, or sports‑related niggles in older children and teenagers. The focus is on careful assessment, clear explanation, and practical advice you can use at home, so you feel supported rather than worried.

What to expect on the first appoitment.

First appointment is a 50 minutes long consultation which allows for a thorough case history taking about baby’s presenting symptoms, medical history, development, course of pregnancy and delivery.

Diagnosis

  • Undress baby down to their nappy.
  • Observation of their posture and gentle assessment of joint mobility.
  • Determine tissue-causing symptoms.

If any abnormalities arise during the assessment or treatment, I will refer for further investigation.

Treatment

  • Very gentle and tailored to the baby’s needs

The assessment and treatment will be carried out with parents present at all times. Parents will be asked to undress baby down to diaper so I can observe baby’s overall appearance, posture and gently check joint mobility. I will explain my findings and discuss what may be contributing to baby’s discomfort. If there are no contraindications or signs of a serious condition and parents are happy to proceed, we can begin a gentle, tailored to baby’s needs treatment.

Parental Control

  • Throughout the consultation, parents remain in control.

Throughout the consultation parents are in control. They are welcome to ask questions  or stop the treatment if they feel the need to. My goal is to ensure that both baby and parents feel comfortable and supported throughout the process.

How children may respond after treatment

Every baby or child responds slightly differently after a session. Some become very relaxed and sleepy and may have a particularly good rest afterwards. Others seem more alert or full of energy for a short time, which is often followed by a deeper sleep later on. Occasionally, children can appear a little unsettled or out of sorts after treatment; this is usually short‑lived and tends to settle within 24–48 hours as their system adjusts.

Care during and after pregnancy

Support is also offered for parents, before and after birth. During pregnancy, gentle osteopathic treatment can help with back, pelvic, rib, and hip discomfort, as well as the physical strain of day‑to‑day life. After birth, treatment can assist recovery, ease aches from feeding and lifting, and help you feel more at home in your body again while you care for your baby.

If you would like to find out how osteopathy could support your baby or child, and talk things through before booking,  you are always welcome to get in touch.
